Sharpening boundary layer retrieval from Doppler LIDAR profiles by exploiting spatial dependence – Chris Geoga

A variety of popular sensors and tools provide one-dimensional profiles of wind velocity or related atmospheric quantities. A common task performed with the measurements that these tools provide is estimating the height of the atmospheric boundary layer (ABL), which is an important feature of the low earth atmosphere that impacts, for example, the concentration of pollutants. In this talk, I will describe a method for more sensitively estimating the ABL height by exploiting differences in the local spatio-temporal properties of wind profiles within and above the ABL.
