Navigating Brazil’s Cattle Supply Chain to Help Save the Amazon

Speaker:  Holly Gibbs, Professor, Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies, UW-Madison

Supply chain governance (SCG) is an increasingly important approach to manage environmental protection and human rights in agricultural systems across the tropics. Brazil’s Zero-Deforestation Cattle Agreements are one of the longest-standing examples of SCG but monitoring limitations have reduced their conservation impacts. In this talk, Gibbs will discuss her work linking >30,000,000 animal transit records with property boundaries from >200,000 properties to map the flow of cattle and deforestation across the Amazon in pursuit of solutions.
