Building Climate Resilience for Wisconsin Lakes

Speaker:  Katie Hein, Lake Monitoring Lead, DNR

Wisconsin is getting warmer and wetter with more extreme precipitation events. These changes impact ice cover, hydrology, nutrient loading, cold-water fish, and more. To lessen the impacts of climate change on aquatic ecosystems, we need down-scaled climate projections and site-specific climate adaptation strategies. I will highlight examples of adaptation science in Wisconsin, from new water quality criteria aiming to preserve oxythermal habitat for cold-water fishes to a framework for evaluating impacts of altered hydrology on lakes. Furthering the science on climate solutions along with impacts is critical.
