SUMMARY:Extreme Rainfall and Compound Flooding: Addressing Non-Stationarity
and the Effects of Climate Change
DESCRIPTION:Speaker:  Stergios Emmanouil\, Assistant Research Professor\,
University of Connecticut \n\n\n\nThe assumption of stationarity in tradi
tional risk assessment is becoming increasingly insufficient due to the do
cumented impacts of climate change on hydrometeorological hazards. This se
minar will explore advanced methods and frameworks designed to address the
non-stationary nature of precipitation as a process. These approaches aim
to (a) reveal vulnerability hotspots\, (b) improve the effectiveness of e
ngineering design\, as well as (c) inform strategies to enhance flood resi
lience under evolving hydroclimatic conditions. Emphasis will be given on
quantifying the risk arising from the interplay of extreme rainfall and ot
her hazards\, such as storm surge in compound coastal flooding.\n\nView th
